The Next Best Thing 1x01

Well, I think the substitute of American Idol is here, The Next Best Thing started last Wednesday on ABC. It seems like nowadays producers think that this talent-searching thing is the key of success. My first reaction: the searching of talented celebrity impersonotators mixed with jokes and „famous celebrities” will be very interesting and funny, but in the end I had to admit that I was wrong. The Next Best Thing: Who is the Greatest Celebrity Impersonator? is just an other boring clone of American Idol, there is no originality in it, it’s just an alternate of the Idol.

Story: Three judges, Jeffrey Ross, Lisa Ann Walter, and Elon Gold (Whose are these guys anyway? I never heard of them too much, so I checked and turned out, Elon Gold is a comedian from Stacked and Lisa Ann Walter from Shall we dance?) travel to many american cities to search and find the ultimate and the most talented celebrity impersonator of USA. Who is liked by the judges, will go on to the next round. After all the semi-finals there will be a final where tv viewers will vote and just one of the many impersonator will receive $100.000 and the title of Best Celebrity Impersonator. Nice. The most important things for a contestant to act, sound and look like the impersonated celebrity and you know, in the first, two-hour long episode, there were more bad impersonators than good. The routine is all time the same, after a short interview with the impersonator we can see the production and finally the judges make a conclusion and of course, a decision about the future of contestant.

Opinion: First of all, there were some very good and funny production and I think the whole idea is pretty good but after some time it’s just boring. You see many bad impressions and after 10-11 contestants, you just want your CSI or Grey’s Anatomy episode back. And it’s true, so I very interested in the future of this show, because the first ratings of the show were pretty low. The household rating of the show was just 9th of all shows, and it’s a very bad premiere for the new hope of ABC. So, cancel-addicts, be ready!

To emphasize someone, I would mention the first contestant, Gary Moore, who played Little Richard very well, he sounded and acted exactly like him, and what is more, his song was just like one of the original songs of the legendary singer. I also liked very much Jim Neeve who was the new George W. Bush, he was funny and looked exactly like the president of United States. And there were other good performances, but the whole show is sucks.
